My Name is Hannes,
and I am the owner, CEO, head writer and janitor of this Blog. I am a scientist in training, currently in PhD education at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. I am native German, born and raised in the southwest and studied Chemical Biology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
I was always interested in the small things that make life, and the principles that dictate their behaviour. So it is not surprising that I ended up majoring in biophysics and physical chemistry, learning how atoms and molecules work, especially in a biological context.
In my PhD studies, I investigate why some RNA molecules do what they do by understanding their structure at a molecular level. Molecular structures in general interest me a lot, and especially the methods that provide us with this information. We tweak and wiggle the laws of physics in order to make them work for us, and it is exciting to understand how these things can actually work.
Furthermore, I enjoy communicating science to my fellow researchers at the Karolinska Institutet, to undergraduate students or to you, who reads this blog.
If you find molecules as beautiful as I do, if you are interested in how we can work with molecular structures in life sciences, if you find chemistry exciting and would like more random facts about it, then come back here some time or follow me on social media to get updates on new posts.
